FAQ

Steel Battalion for Dummies

I want to try this thing! How do I get to play?

The B.S.B.B. will be set up at the Bay Area Maker Faire 2015. If you’d like to hear about future events just sign up for the mailing list on the homepage. And if you’d like to host a B.S.B.B. event or know a person/organization that might be interested just give me a shout!

I’ve never played Steel Battalion, can I use the B.S.B.B.?

Yes! In fact experience is discouraged. In many ways the the experience is better the less you know!

Is the B.S.B.B. only for “gamers”?

Hell no! It’s for everyone. Truly. That’s part of the power of it. In fact it’s meant to be a case-in-point for how everyone can be a gamer, and it’s not different than learning any other new skill. (With the same rewards!)

Is it dangerous?

Yes of course. It’s a giant robot and there are machine guns and cannons involved. Death is not just possible, but likely. (At least, it’s a lot more fun if we all pretend that it is. But truth be told, no one has died in the box yet.)

I’m very tall/short or have a disability, could I use the B.S.B.B.?

Most likely! So far everyone has been able to cram in, and we have a few techniques to accommodate most needs.

Who made this? Who are you?

The B.S.B.B. is the result of man’s passion project that got way out of hand. With a lot of help from friends!

How long did it take you to build this thing?

I’ve been noodling with it on and off for about two years. Wow, two years.

How much did you spend on it?

Ooof, I’m not sure I want to know the answer to that myself. I tried to source all the parts at a reasonable cost, usually under $50. But I’m sure if it was all added up I’ve spent at least a few grand. *Gulp*
